Wisconsin Celebrates Energy Efficiency Day and the People Behind 25 Years of Savings

MADISON, WI - Governor Tony Evers has proclaimed October 7, 2026, Energy Efficiency Day in Wisconsin, recognizing how using less energy helps families manage costs and businesses stay competitive. This year, the observance also celebrates 25 years of FOCUS ON ENERGY® and the people who have made energy savings part of everyday life across the state.

“Wisconsin knows the value of making things work better and making every dollar go further,” said Governor Evers. “For 25 years, Focus on Energy has helped people put that common sense to work, whether they’re fixing a drafty home or finding energy waste on a factory floor. Those improvements keep paying off long after the work is done, giving families and businesses more room in their budgets.”

The anniversary also puts a spotlight on the people behind those savings. On September 29, 2026, Focus on Energy, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, and Governor Evers recognized four Energy Efficiency Champions: On Site Performance Testing, Kwik Trip, the School District of La Crosse, and Dave Leeder. Their stories reveal how a family’s passion for comfortable homes, better places to learn, and a determination to keep Wisconsin paper mills strong can turn energy efficiency into a lifelong commitment.

“Smart energy-saving ideas often originate with the people who know their homes and workplaces best. But turning this familiarity into real impact requires technical expertise and financial support,” said Public Service Commission of Wisconsin Chairperson Summer Strand. “For 25 years, Focus on Energy has provided the strong partnerships and resources needed to deliver successful projects with verified savings across Wisconsin.”

Since 2001, Focus on Energy has supported more than 7 million residential projects and more than 200,000 nonresidential projects. Working with participating utilities, Energy Advisors and contractors, the program helps customers identify improvements that fit their buildings, equipment and budgets. The latest independent evaluation shows those improvements continue to add up.

Energy Efficiency Day falls during October’s Energy Awareness Month. Wisconsin residents and businesses can mark the day by taking the next step and explore energy-saving opportunities and rebates and discover the people and organizations putting energy efficiency to work every day.
