On Site Performance Testing

For more than 20 years, David Geissler has been helping Wisconsin homeowners solve problems they can feel but often can't explain. From drafty rooms and high energy bills to ice damming, moisture issues, and uncomfortable living spaces, David has built a career around finding the root cause — and helping families make informed decisions that improve their homes.

Bringing Energy Efficiency Close to Home

As the owner of On Site Performance Testing, LLC. in Chippewa Falls, David has become a trusted resource across Wisconsin.

His approach combines energy efficiency with building science, the practice of understanding how air, heat, and moisture move through a home and the effect it has on comfort, safety, and energy use. David's work goes beyond diagnosing problems. He takes the time to help people understand what is happening in their homes and what they can do about it.

His passion for energy efficiency began long before it became his profession. Growing up on a dairy farm taught him the value of initiative and understanding how things work. Later, memories of waiting in long gas lines sparked a lifelong curiosity about energy use and conservation. "But when I built my own home, I wanted it tested and certified; and that's really where my serious interest in energy efficiency and building science started," explained David.

That curiosity became a calling in 2005 when he founded On Site Performance Testing. What started as a one-person operation—handling energy assessments, scheduling, customer calls, and invoicing—has grown into a family business built on shared expertise and a common mission.

Today, David’s wife Barbara manages the business, daughter Angela leads customer service, and son-in-law Jamison performs energy testing alongside David. Together, they've created a team that helps homeowners move from uncertainty to confidence.

According to Barbara, “When Dave decided to pursue this new line of work, I was nervous about making the transition, but when he sets a goal he’s always been the kind of person who will work tirelessly to accomplish it.” He did more than accomplish his goal, and it wasn’t long before he was asking his wife to semi-retire from her own career so she could help in managing the growing business. Barbara’s answer was immediate, “Absolutely. We’re in this together. It’s a family thing. We’ll make it happen.”

While Barbara became responsible for scheduling, financials and other administrative work, David continued to bring in new customers. As the workload expanded, more of the family stepped in. The couple’s son-in-law Jamison brought his construction and problem-solving expertise to the business in 2007.

Alongside David, Jamison is essentially a detective for homeowners. He listens to their concerns, studies their house, asks questions, and uses diagnostic tools to piece together what is happening. Jamison emphasized, “Every house is different, so while we have a process, the investigation changes depending on what the house reveals. Our goal is to uncover what the house actually needs before the homeowner spends money on unnecessary improvements.”

This honest approach has helped On Site Performance Testing maintain a stellar reputation for integrity. Another reason the company has upheld their reputation for so long is because of David and Barbara’s daughter - and Jamison’s wife - Angela.

Joining the team not long after her husband, Angela is considered the company’s “backbone.” When someone calls, she’s the person who patiently ushers homeowners through the process of what to expect from an energy assessment, the applications needed, and the potential incentives available through programs like Focus on Energy. She serves as the bridge between homeowners, contractors, and the technical team.

“I’m very passionate about helping people understand what’s available to them,” said Angela, “However, each family member has a specific role, so I’m careful not to provide technical answers outside my expertise — but I’ll direct them to the person who can answer their question accurately.”

Angela continued, “Generally, people will first contact me because something doesn't feel right with their house.” Maybe there's ice building along the roofline, certain rooms never stay comfortable, or energy bills continue to climb. Whatever the issue, this is where David and Jamison step in. Using building science tools such as blower door testing, infrared imaging, combustion safety testing, and ventilation analysis, they identify underlying causes rather than simply treating the symptoms.

“While we become familiar with a customer’s home, we’re an independent third party so we’re not there to sell them anything,” explained Jamison, “We're strictly there to advise them on how to get the best energy-efficiency bang for their buck." For example, if blower-door testing and thermal scanning identifies a leakage, addressing that leak is where homeowners should focus their money.

The overall goal is to help customers understand their options, and those options often include FOCUS ON ENERGY® rebates and other available resources. David and his team help customers determine which improvements make the most sense for their home, what to prioritize, and how available incentives can make the improvements more affordable.

For David, the technical work is only part of the job. "When we leave, I want people to feel like we were honest, we gave them the information they needed, and we were of value to them," he said.

This philosophy has earned lasting trust from homeowners throughout Wisconsin.

"When I hear someone talking about replacing windows or adding insulation, I always suggest they use On Site Performance Testing to see what project would get them the most energy savings and comfort," shared customer Jodi Forster. "It was eye-opening for me, and I think it would be for a lot of people."

Over the years, On Site Performance Testing has tested or consulted on over 12,000 homes while working with the Focus on Energy Program. Thousands of those homeowners completed the recommendations, solving comfortability issues they had with their home while saving energy and money. On Site Performance Testing also certified hundreds of new homes through the Focus on Energy program. As a Focus on Energy Trade Ally, Green Built Home Verifier, and BPI Certified Professional, Dave has remained committed to helping homeowners improve comfort, safety, durability, and energy performance through trusted guidance backed by data and experience.

For David, the most meaningful result isn’t found in a report or an energy bill. It’s the moment a homeowner understands what is happening in their home and feels confident about what to do next. After more than two decades, the combination of building science, education, and genuine care continues to define the work of On Site Performance Testing.

But if you ask Barbara what defines the family business, she says, “What we’re most proud of is the love of our work and our love for each other through it all.”
