Superior, Wis. – Jack Properties, a property management company in Superior, is encouraging others to collaborate with FOCUS ON ENERGY® after a positive first experience with the Program.

Focus on Energy, the state’s energy efficiency and renewable resources program, reached out to owner Jack Cameron after receiving a tip from Superior Water, Light & Power, one of the 107 Wisconsin utilities that partner in the Program.

“[Jack] wanted to upgrade to LED [lights] along with a more energy-efficient boiler,” said Bill Lobner, an Energy Advisor with Focus on Energy. “I assisted with the incentive information and application. Overall, these projects helped to reduce the onsite energy maintenance costs of the building.”

The boiler upgrade, completed last October, is expected to save about $2,000 annually in avoided energy costs. In addition, Focus on Energy provided a $6,240 financial incentive to help offset the initial cost of Jack Properties’ investment in more-efficient equipment.

“I would hope that more businesses take advantage of this program, as the rebate, in many cases, will cover a bunch of your labor to install,” Cameron said. “And [it will] reduce your payback time achieved through energy savings every day.”

Two high-efficiency boilers were installed by Goodin Company, a Focus on Energy Trade Ally contractor. Over their useful life, the boilers are expected to save 67,600 therms of natural gas over base models, which is the carbon emissions equivalent 394,000 pounds of coal burned.

“Bill was prompt and most likely fielded more questions from me than I had hoped to send.” Cameron added. “But in the end, he was very helpful. Thank you, Focus on Energy!”

Residents, businesses and other customers of the utilities that partner in Focus on Energy are eligible for the energy expertise and financial incentives the Program offers.

A third-party evaluation noted Wisconsin runs the most cost-effective energy efficiency programs in the nation. It also found every $1 invested in Focus on Energy generates more than $5 in benefits for Wisconsin, including economic benefits, reduced pollution and reduced energy costs.
