When the Madison Concourse Hotel staff recently replaced two dryers in their facility, it caused some heads to turn. The staff managing the hotel upgrades learned that installing efficient dryers would have a 35% return-on-investment (ROI), paying for themselves in fewer than three years.
The outgoing dryers had aged well beyond their useful life, requiring frequent maintenance and wasting a large amount of energy. The hotel had been considering efficient dryers equipped with modern controls but experienced delays due to internal competition with other capital-intensive improvement projects. When Brian Kent, Director of Engineering for the Madison Concourse Hotel, contacted the Focus on Energy Business Incentive Program (BIP), he requested assistance with external funding and economic payback calculations.
Working closely with one of Focus on Energy’s Energy Advisors, the Madison Concourse Hotel secured an incentive of $4,999 toward the replacement of two dryers. The new equipment provided a valuable return on investment in the form of shorter dry cycle times and improved linen quality. And with a corporate commitment to energy and water conservation, the Madison hotel is planning on installing LED lighting throughout much of the facility, along with updates to its heating and cooling systems.
“Working with Focus on Energy was easy,” said Kent. “The incentive was well worth the thirty minutes of time invested in figuring out the details. Focus on Energy helped show us an ROI of over 60% and that helped make our decision to move forward with the new energy efficient equipment.”
