Green Bay, Wis. – A charitable group with a long history of helping Green Bay homeowners with renovations is celebrating upgrades to its own property.

Neighborworks Green Bay held a dedication ceremony Tuesday for solar arrays installed at four separate locations on the roof of its Jackson Street facility.

Incorporated in 1982, Neighborworks Green Bay provides housing, counseling and education services in the greater Green Bay Area, as well as homeownership lending and housing renovations.

“NeighborWorks Green Bay can continue its mission of improving and strengthening neighborhoods by setting an example of being more energy efficient and resourceful,” said Kyle Thomas, an Energy Advisor with FOCUS ON ENERGY® who presented a check for more than $29,000 to Neighborworks Green Bay at the ceremony.

The money is a Focus on Energy financial incentive to help offset the group’s $148,000 investment in renewable energy. The solar arrays will counterbalance Neighborworks Green Bay’s annual electric consumption by nearly 48%, providing more than $9,700 in annual cost savings.

“Neighborworks… is excited about its new solar project and very much looking forward to making the organization even more energy efficient,” Thomas said.

The Schneider Foundation and RENEW Wisconsin also played a part in the project, and Focus on Energy Trade Ally contractor Arch Electric installed the solar arrays.

Neighborworks Green Bay is a customer of WPS, one of the 107 Wisconsin utilities that partner in the Focus on Energy program.

A recent third-party evaluation noted Wisconsin runs the most cost-effective energy efficiency programs in the nation. It also found every $1 invested in Focus on Energy generates more than $5 in benefits for Wisconsin, including economic benefits, reduced pollution and reduced energy costs.
