Residential Rewards and Enhanced Rewards

Need a new furnace? Buying a heating system and air conditioner at the same time? Tired of ice dams or cold rooms? The Residential Rewards Program offers Cash-Back Rewards for heating and cooling equipment as well as attic insulation and air sealing. Enhanced Rewards are available for heating and cooling equipment for income-qualified participants.

By making improvements and upgrades through our Residential Rewards or Enhanced Rewards Program, you can:

  • Reduce your home's heating and cooling costs by as much as 20 percent (when combined with proper attic air sealing and insulation).
  • Save up to $400 per year on electrical costs by selecting a high-efficiency furnace, which uses less energy to run the blower.
  • Increase the comfort of your home.

Program Eligibility and Requirements:

  • Equipment installed must be selected from our pre-qualified equipment lists, which can be found in the supporting documents sections below. If no pre-qualified equipment list is provided, installations must meet the specifications outlined on the application.
  • Customers cannot receive Cash-Back Rewards from both the Residential Rewards Program and the Enhanced Rewards Program for the same piece of equipment.
  • Cash-Back Rewards apply to improvements and upgrades made to existing homes. If you are building a home, please refer to the New Homes Program.

HOW DO I GET CASH-BACK REWARDS FOR MY NEW EQUIPMENT?

    Check to see if your utility participates in Focus on Energy.

  2. 2

    There are two levels of Cash-Back Rewards: standard Residential Rewards and Enhanced Rewards for income-eligible customers. See if you qualify for Enhanced Rewards.

  3. 3

    Purchase and install equipment from the pre-qualified equipment lists. Equipment lists can be found in the supporting documents sections below.

  4. 4

    Submit your Cash-Back Reward application and required supporting documentation within 60 days of installation. Confirm all application sections are complete and accurate and remember to include a copy of your invoice.

  5. 5

    Allow eight to ten weeks to receive your Cash-Back Reward check in the mail.

Attic Insulation and Air Sealing

$300, not to exceed 75% of installed cost

Reward available only for work performed by a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Trade Ally.

Qualifying attic insulation must have the following attributes:

  • Area improved must be a minimum of 400 square feet.
  • Existing construction only.
  • Air sealing must be done prior to installation of insulation.
  • Open cavity installations: Maximum existing level of R-11 of insulation prior to installation. Minimum level of R-38 of insulation post installation.
  • Closed cavity installations: No insulation can be in the cavities prior to installation. Cavities must be completely dense packed.
  • At least 50 percent of the heating energy for the home must come from a participating electric or natural gas utility.

DETAILS

Air Source Heat Pump

FINANCIAL INCENTIVE:

$300 per air source heat pump 16+ SEER

  • Air source heat pump with a minimum of 16 seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) and a minimum of 8.4 heating seasonal performance factor (HSPF).
  • All components (coil and condenser) must be purchased and installed at the same time.
  • Limited to customers of participating utilities who do not have access to natural gas.
  • Furnace must be the primary heating source for the home's living space.
  • Mini-split or ductless units do not qualify.
  • Cannot combine with Focus on Energy furnace or ECM replacement Cash-Back Rewards.

Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM) Replacement

FINANCIAL INCENTIVE:

$125 per ECM

  • Must replace a permanent split capacitor (PSC) blower motor in an existing furnace or air handler.
  • Existing furnace must have an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) of 90 percent or greater.
  • Existing furnace must be a sealed combustion unit.
  • Furnace must be the primary heating source for the home's living space.

High-Efficiency Boilers

FINANCIAL INCENTIVES:

$300 per natural gas home heating boiler 90% AFUE
$400 per natural gas home heating boiler 95% AFUE

  • Boiler must have an input capacity less than 300 MBH (Thousand British Thermal Units per Hour).
  • Boiler must be sealed combustion unit.
  • Only natural gas boilers are eligible.
  • Boiler must be the primary heating source for the home's living space.
  • Boiler must have a modulating burner and include an outdoor-air reset control (integrated).
  • Chimney liners must be installed where a high-efficiency gas boiler replaces an atmospherically-drafted boiler and only a water heater remains vented through the chimney. The interior opening left by the removed boiler must be closed with a metal cap and sealed with caulk or mortar.

Rewards up to $750 are available for income-qualified participants through the Enhanced Rewards Program.

High-Efficiency Furnaces

FINANCIAL INCENTIVES:

$100 per propane furnace 90% AFUE with ECM
$225 per natural gas furnace 95% AFUE with ECM

  • Furnaces must have a multi-stage burner.
  • Furnaces must have an electronically commutated motor (ECM). An ECM is sometimes referred to as a variable speed, constant-airflow, constant-torque, electronically-efficient, or X-13 motor. Permanent split capacitor (PSC) or motors are not eligible.
  • Furnaces must be a sealed combustion unit and must be the primary heating source for the home's living space.
  • Chimney liners must be installed where a high-efficiency gas furnace replaces an atmospherically-drafted furnace and only a water heater remains vented through the chimney. The interior opening left by the removed furnace must be closed with a metal cap and sealed with caulk or mortar.

Rewards up to $850 are available for income-qualified participants through the Enhanced Rewards Program.

High-Efficiency Furnace and Air Conditioner Combination

FINANCIAL INCENTIVE:

$325 per natural gas furnace 95% AFUE with ECM and 16 SEER central air conditioner

  • Qualified furnace and air conditioner must be installed at the same time and may not be combined with individual equipment Cash-Back Rewards.
  • Combination Cash-Back Reward is not available with furnaces that were previously installed.
  • Only natural gas furnaces are eligible.
  • Furnaces must have a multi-stage burner and electronically commutated blower motor (ECM). Permanent split capacitor (PSC) motors are not eligible.
  • Furnaces must be a sealed combustion unit and must be the primary heating source for the home's living space.
  • Chimney liners must be installed where a high-efficiency gas furnace replaces an atmospherically-drafted furnace and only a water heater remains vented through the chimney. The interior opening left by the removed furnace must be closed with a metal cap and sealed with caulk or mortar.
  • Seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) for the combination of the furnace, outdoor unit, and inside coil must be 16 or greater.
  • An air source heat pump cannot be used to meet the air conditioner portion of this Cash-Back Reward.

Rewards up to $1,000 are available for income-qualified participants through the Enhanced Rewards Program.

High Efficiency Boilers - Enhanced Reward

FINANCIAL INCENTIVE:

$750 per natural gas home heating boiler 90% AFUE or greater

$850 per 90% AFUE furnace with ECM (natural gas, propane, or oil-fired) 

$475 per 90% AFUE furnace (natural gas furnace)

  • Furnaces must be a sealed combustion unit and must be the primary heating source for the home’s living space.
  • Chimney liners must be installed where a high-efficiency gas furnace replaces an atmospherically-drafted furnace and only a water heater remains vented through the chimney. The interior opening left by the removed furnace must be closed with a metal cap and sealed with caulk or mortar.
  • $850 Reward: Furnace must have an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) of 90 percent or greater, a multi-stage burner, and a variable-speed electronically commutated motor (ECM). Permanent split capacitor (PSC) motors are not eligible.
  • $475 Reward: Furnace must be natural gas and have an AFUE of 90 percent or greater.

  • An air source heat pump cannot be used to meet the air conditioner portion of this Cash-Back Reward.
  • Chimney liners must be installed where a high-efficiency gas furnace replaces an atmospherically-drafted furnace and only a water heater remains vented through the chimney. The interior opening left by the removed furnace must be closed with a metal cap and sealed with caulk or mortar.
