Waterford Senior Living (WSL) partnered with FOCUS ON ENERGY® to improve resident comfort, reduce energy use, and support its long-standing commitment to quality care. For nearly 20 years, WSL has provided a welcoming home for seniors through its assisted living and memory care services. Today, energy-efficient upgrades are helping the community create an even more comfortable and supportive environment for residents and staff.
“We take pride in providing exceptional care to our residents. We were the first assisted living facility in the Waterford area and have been WALA Diamond Accredited from the Wisconsin Assisted Living Association since 2020,” says WSL’s Senior Director of Community and Operations, Denise Barnes. “Now, our work with Focus on Energy is helping us enhance daily living here.”

An energy assessment of the facility identified a major opportunity to upgrade the lighting across the assisted living and memory care wings. Focus on Energy Trade Ally, CJM Lighting, updated more than 200 bulbs and 150 fixtures to LEDs. The change produced outstanding energy savings, cutting WSL’s electricity bills. It also offered a brighter, more welcoming atmosphere, making the facility a better place to live and work.
“The former lighting was dim and did not serve our residents the way we wanted it to,” Denise explains. “With the upgrade, there’s better visibility for staff, residents, visitors, and volunteers. It’s a more comfortable experience for everyone.”
The organization has built mutually beneficial relationships throughout the community. According to Denise, it’s unusual to meet someone in Waterford who hasn’t been impacted by WSL’s services.
The staff at WSL take part in local charitable activities, and facility residents volunteer at 4H, scouting programs for boys and girls, and the high school. Likewise, WSL is a prime site for citizens to volunteer their time and talents, seek employment, and find trusted care for their loved ones.
Keeping WSL residents comfortable and the facility running smoothly is essential to the Waterford community. An important way to help maintain the facility’s long-term operations is by controlling energy costs. Thanks to Focus on Energy’s assistance, the work will save WSL $3,640 each year, saving enough energy over the system’s lifetime to power 66 homes for a year.
Because the lighting system is estimated to serve the facility for the next 10 to 15 years, these savings will support WSL and its residents far into the future.
“Every improvement we make is ultimately about the people who call Waterford Senior Living home,” Denise says. “These upgrades help keep our organization sustainable and continue our mission to provide the highest quality care for years to come.”
