Floral Shop Blossoms with Energy Efficiency

With deep roots in downtown Tomah, The Station Floral & Gifts delivers beauty to customers for every occasion. By partnering with FOCUS ON ENERGY®, the business improved comfort for staff and visitors while creating better conditions for its floral inventory, helping it continue spreading joy and encouragement throughout the community.

“Flowers are the universal language of love, comfort, celebration, and connection. They strive to help people express what words sometimes cannot,” says owner Pam Long. “As a woman-owned small business, I’m so grateful to Focus on Energy for the opportunity to enhance my shop to serve customers and our community.”

Custom Arrangements

An energy assessment of the renovated 80-year-old downtown gas station identified the building’s heating and cooling system as the greatest opportunity for improvement.

The Station Floral & Gifts replaced its aging window air conditioners with a ductless mini-split heat pump system, providing efficient year-round heating and cooling. Existing unit heaters were retained as a backup heat source during periods of extreme cold.

Together, these upgrades improved building efficiency and enhanced comfort for staff and customers.

Focus on Energy partnered with We Energies and Focus on Energy Trade Ally, Reliable Heating & Cooling, to bring the project to life.  Having worked with The Station Floral previously, Reliable Heating & Cooling installed the new ductless heat pump system, which is expected to provide reliable heating and cooling for the next 15 to 20 years.

“It was a pleasure to work with the Focus on Energy staff and our wonderful local contractor, Keith Smith from Reliable Heating & Cooling. Together, they completed the project smoothly and effortlessly,” says Long.

Sprouting Sustainability

Beyond improving comfort, the ductless mini-split system offers more consistent temperature control, an important consideration for a business whose products depend on carefully maintained conditions.

“The new heat pump system helps keep our plant and flower inventory fresh to offer the best quality product to our customers on a daily basis,” notes Long.

The Station Floral is equally committed to helping the community flourish. The business partners with the Tomah Public Library’s summer reading program and supports several fundraisers each year to promote local causes. Long believes the shop’s upgrades will create lasting benefits for both the community and the environment.

“I look forward to seeing the impact this project will have on staff and customer comfort, and I’m grateful for Focus on Energy’s help to conserve our valuable resources for years to come.”
