Madison, WI – Focus on Energy delivered a check for more than $17,000 to the Madison Police Department today as an incentive payment for energy-efficient features built into the department’s new Midtown District police station.

The Midtown District building opened in September and features multiple energy-saving qualities, from the amount of insulation in the walls to occupancy sensors for lighting and high-efficiency HVAC and boilers.

“It’s been fantastic – everything we thought it would be and more,” said Captain Jay Lengfeld. “It’s working out to be very functional for the police department. We have a lot of energy savings, so it’s a very efficient building.”

The incentive payment will help offset some of the initial costs of the energy-efficient equipment, and the efficiency of the building will save the department an estimated $22,123 a year in energy costs.

“It was very helpful and very easy to work with them,” Capt. Lengfeld said. “They were a great group to work with and I think the end product is [going to] show a lot of positive results.”

The City of Madison and its police department are customers of Madison Gas & Electric, one of the 107 statewide utilities that fund Focus on Energy. The statewide energy efficiency and renewable energy program offers monetary incentives and energy expertise to residential, business and government customers across Wisconsin.

A recent evaluation report found every $1 invested in Focus on Energy programs creates $5.93 in benefits for Wisconsin, including economic benefits, reduced energy costs, and reduced pollution.
