Focus on Energy® Returns $4.17 for Every $1 Spent
In a year when every dollar counts, Focus on Energy, the state’s energy efficiency and renewable energy program, delivered a strong return for Wisconsin families and businesses, generating $4.17 in benefits for every $1 invested in the program. That’s according to the 2024 independent evaluation of Focus on Energy.
“Year after year, independent evaluation proves that Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy program is a strong, cost-effective public investment, and the greater than $4 returned for every dollar spent underscores the Program’s fiscal responsibility,” said Summer Strand, Chairperson of Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. “The Focus program reduces energy usage, lowers costs, supports clean energy development, and strengthens communities statewide, providing significant value and measurable benefits to our state.”
The report also showed that customers continue to love the program, rating Focus on Energy an impressive 9.4 out of 10. Participants pointed to how easy it is to get started, the helpful staff and contractors, and the energy savings seen each month.
In 2024 alone, more than 175,000 residents and businesses made improvements through the program – ranging from insulation and air sealing to smart thermostats, solar installations, and large-scale energy efficiency upgrades in factories.
These improvements and upgrades add up to 7.7 billion lifecycle kilowatt-hours of energy saved—enough to power more than 600,000 Wisconsin homes for one year.
"Our mission has always been to provide the resources and support Wisconsinites need to make informed, cost-effective energy decisions," said Erin Soman, Focus on Energy Managing Director. "These results show we’re not just meeting our mission; we’re exceeding it. We’re proud to deliver consistent, measurable value to utility customers across the state, year after year.”
