Wattson, The Energy Efficiency Elf Holiday Tips

Wattson's "bright" ideas can keep you off the "Naughty List!"

Seal the Gaps!

Inspect windows, doors, and chimneys for drafts, and seal gaps with weatherstripping or caulking. This keeps warm air inside your home and reduces the energy load on your heating system. Check out the DISCOUNTED weatherization products at the Marketplace

It's also a great time to consider insulating/air sealing your home and take advantage of rebates, incentives, and tax credits!

Solar Powered Lights Outdoors

Solar-powered Christmas lights and decorations charge during the day and shine at night, reducing reliance on electricity and cutting energy costs.

Considering using the sun to help electrify your home?

The Big Bright Ball in the Sky

Homes facing south have it a little easier on sunny winter days. Be sure to take advantage of the Sun when it's shining bright!

Vampires at Christmas?

Unplug electronics like animated decorations, chargers, or unused string lights when not in use. Devices can still draw “phantom power” when plugged in, increasing energy bills.

You can find an advanced power strip at the Focus on Energy Marketplace.

Watch out for "Energy Vampires" all year long!

Too Hot!

Lowering your water heater even a little can offer BIG savings. Plus, a little cooler (120 degrees isn't that cool!) keeps people from showering too long!
