Credits and Deductions

Federal tax credits can help offset the cost of making homes and buildings more energy efficient, reduce energy costs, and help reduce demand during the transition to cleaner energy sources.

For Homeowners

You may be eligible for an Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit covering up to 30% of energy-efficient home upgrades (e.g., insulation, furnaces, heat pumps, water heaters, and more). Plus, you can take advantage of the Residential Clean Energy Credits, which provides up to a 30% income tax credit for the purchase and installation of clean energy equipment (e.g., solar energy, battery storage and fuel cells, small wind turbines, and geothermal heat pumps). Note that these tax credits expire at the end of 2025. Equipment must be installed and placed in service by December 31, 2025 to qualify for the tax credits. Please visit the IRS website for more information. Focus on Energy rebates and separate from tax credits, and you are encouraged to take advantage of both! See the table below for more information.
