Wisconsin Students Lead the Charge in Energy Conservation This Spring
Real-World Impact

Champions of Energy-Savings

This spring, students across Wisconsin are stepping up as energy conservation leaders through the Renew Our Schools challenge, a five-week program that combines education with real-world impact. Hosted by Focus on Energy and the Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP), this initiative empowers students to champion energy-saving practices in their schools and communities.

Renew Our Schools provides hands-on opportunities for students to explore energy concepts, monitor energy use, and implement strategies to reduce electricity consumption and lower energy costs. Participating schools will engage everyone in the building, creating a group effort to compete for cash prizes and maximize their energy savings.

“Renew Our Schools equips students with critical thinking and communication skills to drive real change and build support for energy conservation,” said Heather Feigum, Program Manager at Focus on Energy. “As we enter into the fourth year, it’s inspiring to see the lasting impact this program has on students, schools, and communities.”

Wendy Stelzer from KEEP added, “This program is an investment in our students’ futures, helping them see the tangible impact of everyday actions. Small changes, like turning off lights in empty classrooms or shutting down devices after use, add up to significant energy savings that benefit their schools and the environment.”

The spring 2025 challenge, running from February 24 to April 4, includes the following participating schools:

  • Northland Lutheran High School
  • Kromrey Middle School
  • Amherst Middle School
  • Birchwood STEAM and Career Academy
  • Eagle School of Madison
  • Bay View Middle Schools
  • Elcho School District
  • Riverdale Elementary School
  • Jack Young Middle School
  • SAGES School of Agriculture
  • Albert Story School
  • McFarland High School Eco Club
  • Golda Meir School
  • Evansville High School
  • Webster Middle School
  • Eagleville Elementary Charter School

Throughout the challenge, students will track their schools’ energy usage, document progress, and share updates on their initiatives. Stay connected and cheer on the participating schools by following Focus on Energy and KEEP on Facebook:
