FOCUS ON ENERGY® and the Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) are partnering to get students excited about responsible energy use. The Renew Our Schools six-week energy conservation competition gives students in participating schools the opportunity to learn key energy concepts and make behavioral changes to reduce energy consumption in their school and community. Participating schools install real-time energy gauges to monitor electricity use and see the immediate impact of energy-saving changes.
Participating schools earn points as students learn key energy concepts and make behavioral changes to reduce energy consumption in their school and community. Top earning schools are eligible to receive a cash prize.
"The great thing about this program is the level of engagement and awareness,” said Heather Feigum, Program Manager with Focus on Energy. “Not only are students made more aware of the issues, but they are also provided with the tools and data to hold each other accountable for daily energy use and its impact on the environment.”
Participating school districts include Baraboo, Menomonie, Mount Horeb, Northland Pines, Oconomowoc, Sun Prairie, SAGES School in Fox Lake, and St. Joseph Academy in Milwaukee. While the Spring opportunity is full, planning is underway for a Fall 2022 competition scheduled for October 3 – November 11, 2022. Interested schools can visit www.focusonenergy.com/programs/k-12-schools to learn more and fill out an interest form. The registration deadline is March 31, 2022.
