Madison, Wis. – In October, FOCUS ON ENERGY® announced the 2020 recipients of its New Construction Trade Ally Awards at U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Wisconsin’s virtual Transformation event.
Focus on Energy recognized seven professional design and construction firms in eight separate categories for incorporating energy efficiency into their new building designs.
The winners are all partnering Trade Allies of Focus on Energy, Wisconsin’s energy efficiency and renewable energy resources program. Trade Allies are valuable design professionals, contractors and service providers who partner with the Program to deliver energy-saving products and expertise directly to Wisconsin residents and businesses.
Each of this year’s award recipients are firms that completed new construction projects with Focus on Energy between July 2019 and June 2020. Focus on Energy provides technical and financial support at every stage of the design and construction process for energy-saving projects.
“We’re proud to recognize our partners in the design and construction industry who play a significant role in Focus on Energy’s success,” said the Director of Energy Programs at Focus on Energy, Erin Soman. “Incorporating energy efficiency into the beginning stages of a new construction project maximizes the benefits derived from these measures by reducing energy waste and utility costs over the entire life of the building.”
The 2020 New Construction Trade Ally Award winners and their designated categories are:
- Bray Associates Architects – Program Enrollments
- Bray Associates Architects – Design Team Lead, Non-residential
- Eppstein Uhen Architects – Architect

During the USGBC event, a video provided an inside look at some of the winners’ completed building projects. Awardees were selected based on their participation with Focus on Energy’s Energy Design Assistance offering.
The virtual event, which was the capstone in the 2020 Road to Transformation series, reflected upon how to move forward while centralizing sustainable initiatives, resiliency, community health and equity solutions.
Focus on Energy partners with 107 utilities across the state to offer Wisconsin residents and businesses energy expertise and financial incentives to reduce energy waste.
A federal study completed in 2018 revealed Wisconsin runs the most cost-effective energy efficiency programs in the nation, in terms of energy savings per dollar spent. A separate evaluation released this year found every $1 invested in Focus on Energy generates $4.80 in benefits for Wisconsin, including economic benefits, reduced energy costs and reduced pollution.
