Growing a Stronger Community

Brighter Futures

Thousands of local youth are charting brighter futures thanks to the quality care at Badgerland After School Enrichment Program (BASE) Fort Atkinson. For two decades, the nonprofit has provided supportive programs to kids after school and during summers.

BASE’s Executive Director, Alicia Norris, says the organization’s bond with Fort Atkinson is mutually uplifting. “We continue to be motivated by the support of our community, and we’re committed to inspiring our youth to be contributing, productive, and responsible community members.”

Perfect Time for Improvement

BASE just acquired a new facility to fully support its mission, but the large building needed significant updates. Eager to help, Focus on Energy partnered with MSI General DesignBuild, which oversaw the building’s renovation. The team identified cost-saving upgrades and delivered the greatest long-term benefit to this dynamic community center.

Modern LED lighting now brightens the space after a full lighting overhaul replaced 140 outdated fluorescent bulbs. In addition to lighting upgrades, BASE also added new smart thermostats and upgraded to a high-efficiency water heater.

All these improvements are estimated to save over $3,000 in annual utility savings. “We can direct these funds to nurture BASE’s programs,” Norris says. “They will help us positively impact our youth and increase meaningful connections to the Fort Atkinson community.”
