On August 18th Wisconsin Public Service and Focus on Energy presented Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross a check for $73,704 after installing a 112 kilowatt solar photovoltaic system in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  This system includes 416 solar panels and is among the largest systems installed in the state.  By completing this project, The Sisters are expected to save more than 147,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity —enough energy to power 14 Wisconsin homes for a year.

“As Franciscans, we are committed to caring for all of God’s creation.” Says Sister Donna Koch, Community President.  “We are energized by the prospect of reducing our carbon footprint as well as sharing this knowledge so that others can better care for our earth.  We hope the community, school groups and businesses will find the site educational and will be inspired to think creatively about how to reduce their carbon footprint or implement alternative energy sources.”

Not only do these upgrades save energy and money, but they’re also environmentally friendly. The annual environmental benefits are equivalent to offsetting 236 barrels of oil from being burned – eliminating more than 22,400 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) from being released into the atmosphere.
