General Mitchell International Airport, located in Milwaukee County, received a $105,000 rebate check from Focus on Energy for installing nearly 4,000 new bi-level control LED light fixtures in their parking garage. These energy efficient fixtures use integral occupancy sensors to automatically dim lights during daylight hours and turn lights off when garage areas are unoccupied.

“The next-generation lighting system is more environmentally-friendly while providing better lighting for travelers and reduced energy consumption and maintenance costs,” County Executive Abele said. “Instead of replacing bulbs every four years, the new lights are projected to last ten years. We thank Focus on Energy for recognizing the Airport’s efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and operate at a high level of sustainability.”

This economical upgrade will reduce electrical consumption by up to one-third, reducing peak demand by 807 kW and annual kilowatt hours by 7.1 million. This is enough electrical energy to power 5,337 houses for an entire year. The county will also save nearly $721,315 annually on their electric bill.
