Program: Multifamily Energy Savings

A multifamily apartment complex in Green Bay will save more than $50,000 in energy costs thanks to Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy program.

Birchwood Apartments took part in Focus on Energy’s Common Area Lighting Package by replacing 196 interior and 63 exterior fixtures at its nine building complex in Green Bay.

The energy efficiency upgrades were completed in May of 2017, by Focus on Energy trade ally, Abcon Electric of Kaukauna.

“Focus on Energy is a wonderful program,” said Dan Coppens, property specialist for Birchwood Apartments. “The project went very smooth. The products installed are of high quality and are brighter than what was there before. Abcon Electric did an excellent job. I am working with them on projects at three other properties.”

By saving an estimated 4.0 kilowatts and 816,612 kilowatt hours of electricity, Birchwood Apartments will see an annual energy savings of $51,038. The facility served by Wisconsin Public Service has been working with Focus on Energy to improve energy efficiency since 2004. Other project include a new boiler, installing a high efficiency water heater, and converting their laundry equipment from electric to natural gas.

The 2017 lighting upgrades received an incentive of more than $24,800. Funded by Wisconsin utilities, Focus on Energy works with eligible Wisconsin residents and businesses to install cost effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

Focus on Energy information, resources and financial incentives help to implement project that otherwise would not get completed, or to complete projects sooner than scheduled. Its efforts help Wisconsin residents and businesses manage rising energy usage, promote in-state economic development, protect our environment and control the state’s growing demand for electricity and natural gas.
